The Medicine Men

Michael Arnold Glueck, M.D. |

Robert J. Cihak, M.D. |
Michael Arnold Glueck, M.D. was born in Cleveland, Ohio.
He graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., with honors in zoology
from Western Reserve Medical School, now called Case Western Reserve Medical
School, in Cleveland, Ohio.
In 1966, with the United States at war, then-Lt. Commander Glueck was assigned
to The United States Public Health Service (USPHS) in Manhattan and Staten
Island, N.Y.
He received his residency training at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts
General Hospital (MGH) in diagnostic radiology. Glueck was the only physician in
his Harvard residency class to be made a staff radiologist in his fourth year.
He is board certified by The American Board of Radiology and The American Board
of Nuclear Medicine. He has The National Board of Medical Examiners and the
State of California licenses.
Prior to his retirement from clinical medicine he was also licensed in the
states of Massachusetts, Ohio, and Florida.
Following residency he moved to California where he was chief of radiology for
many years at Costa Mesa Memorial Hospital. He was twice elected chief of staff.
He then served as a research and development consultant (director of medical
affairs) to the American Hospital Supply Corporation in Irvine, Calif., which
became Baxter Healthcare Corporation. There he received a Distinguished Research
Achievement award.
As an accidental, but not reluctant, journalist he began his medical-legal
writing career with 150-word letters to local and national newspapers. Former
Pulitzer Prize-winner Rick Reiff, editor of the Orange County Business Journal,
gave Glueck his first column, "Deep Thoughts from Dr. Mike.” These opinions
attracted local and national attention for his keen observations and universal
insight.
Soon after, at the Orange County Media and Press Awards, he surprised the
establishment by winning most of the top writing awards including:
- Special Award for Overall Best Writing
- Award for Best Serious Writing
- Award for Best Humorous Writing
- Award for Best Non-Breaking Sports Writing
Thereafter he won the Ruby Slipper Award from the Orange County Building
Industry Association for his hard-hitting commentary on legal issues in
construction defects cases.
He has won three Special Awards from the Orange County board of supervisors for
his work with Orange County Citizens vs. Lawsuit Abuse (OC-CALA). In October
2001, Glueck received the prestigious national Legal Watchdog Award from the
American Tort Reform Association (ATRA), based in Washington, D.C.
He now has over 2,000 publications (many alongside Dr. Cihak with whom he writes
"The Medicine Men Column") plus numerous single-byline columns. He has been
distributed by the Scripps Howard News Service, and published by
NewsMax.com, JewishWorldReview.com, WorldNetDaily.com, The Orange County
Register, Los Angeles Times, The Washington Times, Daily Pilot, Jerusalem Post,
USA Today, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Insight on the News, and Forbes.
His medical writings have appeared in The Western Journal of Medicine,
British Journal of Medicine, The New England Journal of Medicine, Radiology,
and The American Journal of Roentgenology.
His commentaries, opinions, insights, essays, and letters have also been
published as well in numerous other journals, magazines, and newspapers locally,
nationally and internationally.
He is a member of Doctors for Disaster Preparedness (DDP) and is an advisor
to The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS).
Legend has it that Glueck is a direct descendant of a seven-time mayor of the
fabled Dodge City and is a cousin of the young lady who was the model for the
original Lois Lane in the Superman series. This may explain why he is such an
ornery critter who likes to stand up for truth, justice, and the American way
for the little guy. He was one of the first opinion writers to comment
nationally on the special needs of the disabled, retarded, and mentally ill.
He is married to Miriam Weber Glueck for 42 years. She is a retired elementary
school teacher and writes on parenting. His son, Jeffrey, is CMO of Travelocity
and creator of "The Traveling Gnome.” His daughter, Jennifer, is a human
resource specialist in development and training at The Visiting Nurse
Association in New York. She does a national column for www.officepolitics.com.
