CHICAGO -- Aetna Inc., the third-largest U.S. health insurer, said Tuesday it promoted Mark Bertolini, 51, to the position of president.
The title previously was held by Ronald Williams, who remains chairman and chief executive of the Hartford, Connecticut-based company.
Bertolini joined Aetna in February 2003 as senior vice president of specialty products and was promoted to executive vice president and head of business operations earlier this year.
Before joining Aetna, Bertolini held positions with Cigna and NYLCare, and was chief executive officer of SelectCare.
