Giuliani Extends Lead in NBC/WSJ Poll

Rudy Giuliani has extended his lead over his rivals for the Republican presidential nomination, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

Matched against other Republicans, Giuliani received 33 percent of the votes in the late-July survey, easily outdistancing unannounced candidate Fred Thompson with 20 percent. John McCain got 17 percent of the vote, and Mitt Romney, 11 percent.

Giuliani’s 13-point lead over Thompson was four percentage points better than in a late-June NBC/Wall Street Journal poll.

On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton increased her lead over second-place finisher Barack Obama to 21 percentage points, getting 43 percent of the votes compared to 22 percent for Obama. Her lead in the June poll was 14 percent.
