About 100 people greeted possible Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson at a Houston airport Wednesday, chanting "We want Fred" as the former senator and actor began a fund-raising and campaign swing through Texas.
Thompson, who polls in double-digits without having announced a campaign, was still non-commital.
"I've got some final plans that I'm going to be making a final decision on in the not too distant future that I'm going to need your help on," he told the crowd at a private jet facility at Hobby Airport.
This was the first stop he's made in Texas since becoming a 2008 GOP contender.

Thompson also was to attend a private fundraiser in Houston, before flying to Dallas for a rally at Dallas' Love Field.
Thompson donned a cowboy hat given to him by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott and Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, among Texas Republicans who have said they're looking for a conservative nominee in 2008.
"It's going to come down to ideas that are going to help this country," Thompson said. "It's not often that a person has the opportunity to really do that."
While other candidates like Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney and John McCain are the front-runners in the nine-man GOP field, Thompson often polls nearly as high.
A recent Associated Press-Ipsos survey showed general dissatisfaction among Republicans with their choices, underscoring the volatility of the 2008 GOP race.
Thompson, a former Tennessee senator, is better known as an actor in movies and on NBC's long-running drama "Law & Order."
Thompson, 64, represented Tennessee in the Senate from 1994 to 2002. He has a conservative Senate record and a philosophy he likes to compare to former President Reagan.
