Further fueling talk that Fred Thompson will seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, the former senator and his supporters are holding his first Washington, D.C.-area fundraiser July 30.
The $1,000-per-person, $5,000-per-political-action–committee event at the JW Marriott hotel "will give many inside the Beltway their first chance to see Thompson – as the potential presidential candidate – in action,” Roll Call reports.
Supporters hope to raise more than $250,000.
Thompson backers who are on the event’s official host committee include more than 30 lobbyists and professionals connected to some of the largest Fortune 500 companies.

Also, 18 current GOP lawmakers will be honorary host committee members for the fundraiser, according to Roll Call.
And Rep. Zach Wamp, R-Tenn., said he expects as many as 15 more members of the House to endorse Thompson by the time the fundraiser is held.
Officially, Thompson has thus far said only that he is "testing the waters” regarding a White House run.
