"All the News That’s Fit to Print” will have to fit on smaller pages starting on August 6 – the New York Times is shrinking its pages by 1 1/2 inches across.
According to an internal Times memo obtained by the New York Observer, "There are few design changes that will be obvious to the reader, except for the overall page dimensions. There are the same number of columns per page . . .
"Narrower columns mean either slightly smaller or slightly squarer photos.”
The narrower columns will contain fewer words in headlines, so editors are preparing to run shorter one-column stories.
