Giuliani Law Firm Gave to Democrats
Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani’s law firm gave contributions to more Democratic candidates than Republicans in the 2006 midterm elections. The 2006 donations from the political action committee of the Houston-based law firm Bracewell & Giuliani - known as Bracepac - included $5,000 to then-Democratic House leader Nancy Pelosi and $3,000 to Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California. Bracepac contributed to 53 Democratic candidates and 50 Republicans in the 2006 election cycle, according to federal records cited by the San Francisco Chronicle, and donations to Democrats accounted for nearly 40 percent of the firm’s total outlays. Giuliani has already faced questions about his income from the law firm, which he serves as a security consultant and public speaker. The Houston Chronicle reported that Giuliani has been paid at least $1.2 million by Bracewell & Giuliani, and Texas Lawyer disclosed that he also received $690,000 in partners' profits last year.
Story Continues Below But Bill Whalen, a Hoover Institution research fellow, said the campaign contributions by Giuliani's firm won’t hurt his attempts to woo conservative and grassroots voters. "If the donations were in Rudy Giuliani's name, or his wife's name, that would be a problem," Whalen told the San Francisco paper.
