Imus Hires High-Powered Lawyer

Fired talk show host Don Imus has hired Martin Garbus, one of the nation’s leading trial lawyers – sparking speculation that Imus could be contemplating legal action against his former employers at CBS and MSNBC.

Garbus, a partner in the Manhattan law firm Davis & Gilbert, can list among the clients he has represented Lenny Bruce, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Nancy Reagan.

Last week Garbus’ personal blog stated that he "represents Don Imus in a dispute with CBS,” a sentenced that was later removed from the blog, according to Business Week.

When contacted by Business Week, Garbus declined to discuss why Imus had retained his services.

Imus recently signed a 5-year deal with CBS that was to pay him nearly $10 million a year.

Imus created a furor on April 4 with disparaging remarks about the Rutgers women’s basketball team. A week later, MSNBC announced that it would no longer simulcast his show. CBS canceled the show the following day.
