Rep. Dana Rohrabacher has become the latest Republican to voice criticism of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales over the firing of federal prosecutors, but he stopped short of calling for his ouster.
"It is ultimately the president’s decision but perhaps it would benefit this administration if the Attorney General was replaced with someone with a more professional focus rather than personal loyalty,” the California congressman said.
Last week Republican Sen. John Sununu called for Gonzales’ firing.
Rohrabacher has earlier been critical of Gonzales and the Justice Department over other issues, including the case of border patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, who were sentenced to prison terms of more than a decade over the shooting of a drug smuggling suspect on the Mexican border in 2005.

"There’s been a pattern of arrogance in this administration,” Rohrabacher said in remarks reported by The Hill.
"They’ve demonstrated contempt for Congressional oversight and now we see a misuse of FBI authority, heavy-handed firings of U.S. Attorneys along with the ruthless prosecution of border agents Ramos and Compean.”
