The political furor over the firing of eight federal prosecutors is heating up as the Senate Judiciary Committee is set to vote on whether to authorize subpoenas to White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove and 13 other officials.
Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., are scheduled to convene the committee on Thursday to consider subpoenaing Rove and the other current and former administration officials, including former White House Counsel Harriet Miers and her top aide William Kelley, reports John Bresnahan of The Politico.
The committee may also subpoena six of the eight fired prosecutors and several Justice Department officials, including Kyle Sampson, who recently resigned as Attorney General Alberto Gonzales’ chief of staff.
