Donald Trump, always opinionated, is not a fan of the Iraq war or the plan to send more U.S. troops into battle there.
Appearing Friday on MSNBC’s "Imus in the Morning” program, Trump blasted the Bush administration’s efforts in Iraq and the wider conflicts in the Middle East.
"I saw Cheney yesterday saying how great the Iraq war was going, and I said to myself, ‘are we talking about the same war?’” Trump said. "I thought Bush’s [State of the Union] speech was very sad. The president looked sad, very beaten. He is pushing a policy that is a disaster for the country.”
Trump was unforgiving in his assessment of the situation in Iraq as it has played out in the past several years, blaming Bush for getting the United States involved in what he claims is a losing situation.
"He has started a mess over there like nothing we have seen,” Trump said of the president. "Now Lebanon is falling apart. He has started a domino that is going to fall. It is a total disaster.”

Trump continued: "If we send in 20,000 troops or 100,000 troops, it’s not going to matter, and the day we leave, it’s all coming apart anyway.”
Trump said the country needs better leadership but would not tip his hand as to a favorite for the 2008 presidential race.
"I like a number of people,” he told Imus. "I have many friends who are running. I like Rudy [Giuliani], I like Hillary [Clinton]. I’m going to see who gets to the final stages” before offering support.
