NewsMax Poll: Mel Gibson No Anti-Semite

An Internet poll sponsored by NewsMax.com reveals that a majority of Americans believe Mel Gibson should serve prison time following his DUI arrest.

But an even larger majority don’t think he is anti-Semitic, despite the disparaging remarks about Jews that he made to his arresting officer, and most respondents say they are more likely rather than less to see Gibson’s next movie.

NewsMax will provide the results of this poll to major media and share them with radio talk-show hosts across the country. Here are the poll questions and results:

1) As a result of Mel Gibson’s DUI arrest and alleged comments, what is your opinion of him?
Favorable: 36 percent
Less Favorable: 37 percent
No Change: 27 percent

2) Do you accept Mel Gibson’s apology for his arrest and "despicable” comments?
Accept: 79 percent
Don’t Accept: 21 percent

3) Do you believe Mel Gibson is anti-Semitic, as some groups allege?
Yes, an anti-Semite: 26 percent
No, not an anti-Semite: 67 percent
Undecided: 7 percent

4) Are you more or less likely to see Mel’s next movie?
More Likely: 42 percent
Less Likely: 25 percent
Just as Likely: 33 percent

5) Do you believe Mel Gibson’s "Passion of the Christ” movie was anti-Semitic?
Yes, anti-Semitic: 14 percent
No, not anti-Semitic: 86 percent

6) Should Mel serve jail time for his DUI?
Yes: 56 percent
No: 31 percent
No Opinion: 13 percent
