Ed Meese: N.Y. Times Aiding Enemy
Former Attorney General Ed Meese accused the New York Times of "giving aid and comfort to the enemy" a term that fits the definition of treason. Interviewed Monday on Rush Limbaugh's radio show, Meese said the Times' outing of the CIA and Treasury Department's tracking of financial transactions by al-Qaida and other terrorist groups was its "the third offense," Pipeline News reported. According to Meese, the Times' exposure of of the existence of the NSA program to track al-Qaida communications, their outing of the logging of phone records and now the publishing of the details of the financial tracking operation were cases of newspaper "putting the enemy on notice." That, he said was giving "aid and comfort to the enemy." Pipeline News pointed out that this "is the classic definition of treason going back at least 600 years, to Britain's Treason Act of 1351, which defines high treason, in part as: 'or be adherent to the King’s enemies in his realm, giving to them aid and comfort in the realm...'"
