Andy Rooney Not Pleased With Couric News

There’s at least one CBS insider who is willing to admit he’s none too happy about the hiring of Katie Couric to anchor "The CBS Evening News” – commentator Andy Rooney of "60 Minutes”.

When radio host Don Imus asked Rooney on Wednesday what he thought about the changes at CBS News, Rooney replied: "I’m not enthusiastic about it. I think everybody likes Katie Couric. I mean how can you not like Katie Couric? But I don’t know anybody at CBS News who is pleased that she’s coming here.”

As NewsMax reported, Rooney suggested in January – amid talk of Couric coming to CBS – that instead of paying her big bucks the network should take that money and plow it into newsgathering resources.

"Give it to a bunch of reporters and make CBS News the best news report in the world,” he told CNN’s Larry King.

But Rooney himself might not be long for CBS – there is talk that the 87-year-old commentator could soon be replaced by comedian Jon Stewart on "60 Minutes.”
