Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch, a Democrat, is backing GOP Rep. Peter King's call to block a deal by Dubai Ports World to run nine of the 300 terminals in six major U.S. ports, including the port of New York/New Jersey.
"I will be guided primarily by the conclusions of Peter King," Koch told NewsMax.com on Wednesday.
The influential Democrat said he agrees with King's call in the New York Times to grant Congress veto power over the Dubai deal even if President Bush approves the terminal takeover after a 45-day review.
"The administration has to educate itself," King told the paper. "They have to conduct a full and thorough investigation."
Mayor Koch told NewsMax: "That's my position. I think the public is very well protected by Peter King and I support his position."

Koch said he also agrees with New York Sen. Hillary Clinton's call to ban foreign ownership of any terminals in U.S. ports.
"I support that as well, overall," he told NewsMax. "I don't understand why we would have a different standard for airports and a more lax standard for seaports. I think it should be the same standard."
Koch, a NewsMax pundit, has crossed party lines as a strong supporter of President Bush's policies in Iraq and the overall war on terrorism.
