Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., announced the legislative agenda for the conservative House Republican Study Committee Wednesday.
Pence, a former talk-show host who has described himself as "Rush Limbaugh on decaf,” urged Republicans to return to the "nucleus of issues that minted” the Republican majority in 1994: limited government, fiscal discipline, and moral values.
Pence said the RSC will push to make the tax cuts permanent, reform the budget process, and reduce the deficit through another budget reconciliation bill. They will also work for ethics reform requiring transparency and earmark reform.
On the moral values front, Republicans will try to pass a Marriage Protection Amendment defining marriage as between "husband and wife” and not as "redefined by activist judges.” They will also push for bans on human cloning and protections for religious freedoms "such as the Pledge of Allegiance, the Ten Commandments, and religious expression in the public square.”

And, they will not forget about Social Security. Pence declared the group would try again to "pass legislation that stops the raid on the Social Security Trust Fund and allows Americans to own a personal Social Security account.”
Pence also hinted at concerns over the mid-term elections. "You cannot beat a national trend,” he warned, "without a national agenda.”
"Acting on the RSC (priorities),” he continued, "is the best hope for renewing the confidence of the American people in our commitment to fiscal discipline and reform.”
