Fading pop star Michael Jackson is denying reports that he will be singing a collection of prayers penned by the late Pope John Paul II.
"Contrary to published reports in Italy, and the United States, Michael Jackson has not participated in any discussions with the Vatican or Edizioni Musicali Terzo Millennio, an Italian music label specializing in religious songs, to record music to Pope John Paul II's prayers," Jackson spokeswoman Raymone K. Bain told Eonline last week.
"None of Mr. Jackson's authorized representatives have contacted either the Vatican or Edizioni Musicali Terzo Millennio, regarding this proposed project," she added.
Last week, the Millennium Music Society's Father Giuseppe Moscati sent the rumor mill into high gear when he announced plans for a Jackson-Vatican collaboration on 24 prayers and chants written by John Paul II.

But late last week Fr. Moscati said he was merely expressing his own personal "hope."
"It would be very difficult for the Vatican to accept the project," he says he now realizes. "Although he has been absolved by the courts - Jackson's image cannot be put alongside that of the pope."
