Sen. George Allen hasn’t decided whether to run for president in 2008, but he appears to be the early favorite among former NFL players-turned-politicians.
The Virginia Republican – son of NFL Hall of Fame coach George Allen – hosted a pre-Super Bowl fund-raiser in Detroit that attracted pro football legends Steve Largent, a former congressman from Oklahoma; Lynn Swann, who is running for governor in Pennsylvania; and Jack Kemp, who ran for president in 1988 and vice president in 1996.

Allen is a "rising star in the Republican Party [in Washington] and around the country,” Kemp told the publication The Hill.
Kemp said Allen gave a speech about "unleashing the talent of every American, including the less fortunate,” and said that "football teaches the lesson that everybody can contribute.”
Also on hand were former Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach, three NFL team owners and Tampa Bay Bucs General Manager Bruce Allen – George’s brother.
