Rice 'Happy' Women Running for High Office

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said in an interview on French television Wednesday that she's glad to see women running for high office — but she won't join them.

"I'm very happy to see women campaigning and winning in many countries," she said on TF1, in response to a question about Segolene Royal's bid to be France's first woman president.

"But I would not be one of them," she added.

Rice has denied presidential ambitions and said that once her job at the State Department is up, she will return to California to teach.

Royal won the Socialist Party's nomination earlier this month for presidential elections next spring. She and conservative Nicolas Sarkozy, who formally launched his campaign Wednesday, are the front-runners.
