Fast-food eaters in Singapore and Taiwan are enjoying a new comfort food courtesy of McDonald's.
The world’s largest fast-food company has added rice burgers – fried beef slices served between two pressed rice cakes – to its menu in Singapore after successfully launching the product in Taiwan.
Singapore’s population of 4.4 million people is predominantly ethnic Chinese, Malay and Indian, with rice being a staple food item for all three ethnic groups.
Reuters reports that McDonald’s based their Singapore decision on the successful sale of more than 5 million rice burgers in six months since adding the item to the menu at Taiwan restaurants.
