Starbucks Enters Movie Business

Starbucks has taken its first step into the movie business by signing a deal with Lions Gate to promote and distribute the April release "Akeelah and the Bee.”

The coffee giant will receive an undisclosed portion of the film’s box-office sales, Advertising Age reports. Starbucks will screen the movie to employees before its debut, run promotions in its 5,500 U.S. and Canada cafes and show sneak previews for customers.

"Akeelah and the Bee” stars Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne and focuses on a young girl from South Los Angeles who tries to make it to the National Spelling Bee.
