Top political strategist Dick Morris said Tuesday that First Lady Laura Bush would not have urged Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to run for president last Friday unless her husband had signed off on the comment.
"I guarantee that it was cleared, in advance, with the president," Morris told NewsMax.com.
"Without [his brother] Jeb running, I think the president may be pushing Condi over the next three years."
Asked on Friday whether the time was right for a female president, Mrs. Bush told CNN: "I think it'll happen, for sure."
"I think it will happen probably in the next few terms of the presidency in the United States," Mrs. Bush added.
Laura told CNN this woman will be a Republican and if she had her choice, it would be Condi.
Mrs. Bush said: "I'd love to see her run. She's terrific."

Asked about Mrs. Bush's comments on Monday, Dr. Rice said: 'You know, obviously, it's flattering when people say things. And the first lady is not only a terrific person, she's my friend.'"
But Rice reminded: "You know, I've spoken on this. I know what I'm good at. I know what I want to do, and that's not it.'
Asked about a possible run for vice president, Rice reportedly laughed and then "just moved on."
