Bill Clinton to Solve Global Poverty
The Clinton Global Initiative is set to burst upon the scene in New York City this week, with ex-President Bill Clinton hosting a get-together of what he calls "the world best minds and most distinguished problem-solvers."
The stated goal? Brainstorm a solution to global poverty.

To be sure, Clinton's guest list boasts of some real star power, including headliners like Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Prime Minister Tony Blair and French President Jacques Chirac.
But, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune Reiview, other attendees at the $15,000 per ticket soiree seem to have more expertise in causing global poverty than solving it.
Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, for instance, apparently qualifies as one of Clinton's best and brightest poverty solvers. But some say Obasanjo's real talent lies is draining state funds into private bank accounts.
Then there's Paul Kagame, the Tutsi military man who was installed as president of Rwanda by Uganda's military after the slaughter of the 1990s. Critics say Kagame shares blame for the Rwandan genocide.
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who will be among Clinton's honored guests, actually helped generate some economic promise for his people in the 1990s - so much so that then-President Clinton took notice with a personal visit.
His record was marred, however, after he invaded the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo in support of rebels fighting to overthrow the government.
After noting the dubious achievements of the above leaders, the Tribune-Review said:
"To bring individuals like Kagame and Obasanjo to America to talk about 'good governance' is a sick joke."
