Rep. Katherine Harris will launch her bid for the Republican nomination to vie for one of Florida's U.S. Senate seats at the Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota County on Tuesday.
The former secretary of state in Florida – who gained nationwide recognition when she certified George Bush's victory in the state during the 2000 recount controversy – will then begin a five-day "listening tour" around the state.

Stops will include Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, Pensacola and Naples, according to the Miami Herald.
"Unique regions comprise Florida's historic fabric," Harris said in a statement. "I look forward to spending time in every county listening to Floridians' concerns, as well as their dreams for a better tomorrow. So much more can be accomplished in our great state.
"Our tour will be a very special time for me and my family as we look forward to sharing these moments with friends and supporters throughout our state."
Republican leaders have expressed concerns about Harris' bid, pointing to polls that indicate she can't unseat Democratic incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson.
But the GOP failed to recruit House Speaker Allan Bense to run against Nelson. Bense decided last week not to seek the nomination.
