Scheuer noted that Britain has a far more sophisticated internal police and security system than the U.S. He suggested that if British security had failed to detect such a major, coordinated attack, America may be at far more risk.

Scheuer, who was part of the CIA's task force on al-Qaida and bin Laden, is the author of "Through Our Enemies' Eyes: Osama Bin Laden, Radical Islam & the Future of America" and "Imperial Hubris: Why the West Is Losing the War on Terror."
