Leamer: Arnold Still Wants Presidency

His protestations to the contrary notwithstanding, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger still wants to become president of the United States, according to Laurence Leamer, author of "Fantastic: The Life of Arnold Schwarzenegger."

"That's his dream," Leamer told the Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly Tuesday night. "He thinks the Constitution should be changed [to make it possible for a foreign-born citizen to become president]."

The Schwarzenegger biographer said Arnold's speech last summer to the GOP convention was the first step in his presidential campaign.

"He intended that speech to be so dramatically positive that America would say: 'We need this man to lead us in the 21st century.'"

Though Leamer's book is mostly positive toward the Governator and his wife, he noted that Maria Shriver's Kennedy pedigree is sometimes a problem.

  • Dissing Uncle Ted. "Arnold said, at one point, that the person he liked the least in his life was Ted Kennedy," Leamer told O'Reilly. "And a lot of Kennedys don't like him."

  • Kennedys resent Arnold's success. They're jealous, the author maintained, because Schwarzenegger is a self-made man rather than an "inheritor." "Their greatness is in the past. [Schwarzenegger's] greatness in now and in the future," Leamer said.

  • Arnold's old bodybuilding friends. "[Maria] doesn't want them around the house," Leamer said, though her hubby insists on keeping them close. Maria was none too thrilled when they were married, he noted, and Arnold invited his weightlifting buddies instead of Hollywood execs.

  • Banned by the "Today" show. Leamer suspects that the tidbits in his book about Maria and Uncle Ted are the reason she pressed "Today" to pull the plug on a possible interview.

"NBC gave her veto power over my appearance on the 'Today' show," he told O'Reilly. "I've got the e-mails that show that it's absolutely true."
