Frist to Dems: Dump Durbin
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist urged Senate Democrats on Monday to remove Sen. Dick Durbin from his position as Senate minority whip, calling his comparison of U.S. troops to Nazis last week "shameful."
Asked point-blank if Democrats should press Durbin to step down from his leadership post, Frist told ABC Radio host Sean Hannity, "I hope that they would do that."

"That's an elected position, so you'd have to leave that up to his [Democratic] colleagues," the top Senate Republican explained. "To date, we have not seen his colleagues step forward and condemn remarks which I regard as shameful."
"I hope that they would do that and I hope that they will take action," Frist added.
The Tennessee Republican said he regarded the Durbin outburst to be far more offensive than purportedly racially insensitive remarks by Sen. Trent Lott three years ago, which forced Lott to step down as majority leader.
"Clearly [Durbin's] remarks are much more offensive," Frist told Hannity.
