Asked whether Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice would make a good president, President Bush praised her to the skies on Thursday - but declined to answer the question directly.
"Condi Rice is a remarkable woman," he said in an exclusive interview with the New York Post. "She is bright, talented, firm and clearly sees where the world is going, and she's going to do a very good job."

While the president meant that Condi would do a good job as secretary of state, he suggested he'd deserve partial credit if she decides one day to seek higher office.
"If I catch her thinking that way, I'm going to remind her that I picked her to be secretary of state because I'm confident that she can do a good job," Bush explained.
When Rice arrived in the Oval Office minutes later, Bush kidded her about the presidential question - "and acknowledged he hadn't exactly answered it," the Post said.
But the president went out of his way to make it clear that he and his top diplomat were on the same page on a whole array of issues.
"She knows how I think and I know how she thinks," he offered. "Condi can march right here and say, 'Hey, you know, Mr. President, you have to think [about] it this way."
