Sandy Berger Critical of Bush Security Policy
Former Clinton national security adviser Sandy Berger criticized the Bush administration on Friday for implementing a national security policy after the 9/11 attacks that he said doesn't protect the areas mostly likely to be targeted by terrorists.
"We let ourselves slide into a pork barrel mindset in which the two top states for homeland security money, per capita, are Wyoming and Alaska - not exactly, one would think, the top priorities," said Berger, who was a member of a panel debating national security at Purdue University.

"California and New York are at the bottom of this list," Berger complained, according to Indiana's Journal and Courier, adding, "It's based upon political considerations."
The one-time top Clinton official was forced to resign from John Kerry's presidential campaign last July after security guards at the National Archives caught him stuffing top secret intelligence documents down his pants.
"I made an honest mistake, which I deeply regret," Berger explained at the time.
Prosecutors at the Justice Department disagreed, and convened a criminal grand jury - which is currently weighing whether Berger should be charged.
