Bookstore Crowd Swarms Levin, Hannity

Explaining that he doesn't get out too often, Mark Levin vowed to his WABC Radio audience last week to keep the tour for his new book, "Men in Black: How the Supreme Court Is Destroying America," short and sweet.

So when he turned up Saturday night in Huntington, N.Y., for one of just three scheduled appearances, fans drove hours for a chance to meet the former Reagan Justice Department official and constitutional scholar-turned-talk host.

With "Men in Black" topping Amazon.com's nonfiction list last week - no mean feat for book on Supreme Court cases covering the last 200 years - Huntington's Book Revue filled up quickly.

Fox News star Sean Hannity, a close friend of Levin's, was also on hand - and the two entertained the audience with short monologues before the signing began.

Hannity pumped up the crowd with a tribute to his Long Island hometown, then invoked the names of prominent Republicans and Democrats, eliciting the cheers or boos as warranted.

Levin explained why he finds it so hard to tolerate left-wingers in post-9/11 America, poking fun at their new mantra, "Where are the weapons of mass destruction?"

Seated in one corner of the store, the "Men in Black" author signed copies and chatted with fans for at least five hours, as lines stretched out the door and around the corner.

Across the room Hannity held court while signing copies of his second book, "Deliver Us From Evil: Defeating Terrorism, Despotism and Liberalism."

Ironically, in the last two years the same store had played host to both Bill and Hillary Clinton, each of whom had drawn huge crowds for their own book signings.

But while the Clinton books are still available in most stores, they seemed to have vanished from Saturday night's venue - at least until one Levin-Hannity fan noticed a few copies near the bathroom.
