CBS is offering Katie Couric $60 million over five years to anchor the network’s "Evening News,” according to a report – LESS than the $15 million a year she is currently paid as host of NBC’s "Today.”
CBS apparently felt justified in making the lower offer because Couric would be on the air for only 30 minutes a night, compared to three hours on "Today,” the New York Post reports.
But Couric’s salary at "Evening News” – which has been stuck in third place for a decade – would be "only a portion of the cost of retooling the CBS news operation to accommodate Katie if she decides to jump,” Don Kaplan writes in the Post.
"Katie would likely be able to dictate a whole new direction at the nightly news show – not to mention new sets, promotion and marketing campaigns and other expensive changes.”

TV insiders believe money is less of a concern to Couric than how badly she wants to make a lifestyle change, according to the Post.
Couric’s NBC contract expires in May.
As NewsMax has reported, Bob Schieffer – interim anchor of "Evening News” since March – has urged his bosses to sign Couric when her contract runs out, saying: "She would make us a better news department. I’m hoping we can get her.”
