Tookie's Book Sales Slim to None

Right up until the moment he was executed, one of the primary arguments advanced to spare Tookie Williams' life was that he had reformed himself into a children's book author who was spreading the word against gang violence.

But it turns out that Tookie's word didn't get spread very far.

According to the web site BlackNews.com, the Crips co-founder's first book in 1997, titled "Gangs and the Abuse of Power: Tookie Speaks Out Against Gang Violence" - sold a grand total of 330 copies.

Normally, when book sales for first-time author are that dismal, publishers aren't exactly beating a path to his door in hopes of snagging the sequel.

But somehow Tookie got another book deal - and in 1999 he wrote: "Gangs and Wanting to Belong."

According to Black News, however, sales were even worse for Tookie's follow-up effort - with just 2 copies sold to date.
