Jewish Group Supports 'Christmas'

Comedian Jackie Mason and the Jews Against Anti-Christian Defamation are fed up with the war on Christmas.

The newly formed group held a press conference Thursday at the National Press Club to defend Christmas and Christianity.

"Who is disturbed by the words ‘Merry Christmas’?” Mason asked a roomful of reporters via teleconference.

"Christmas represents love and brotherhood, friendship and happiness.”

Mason is also perplexed by the different treatment afforded to patently offensive forms of speech and religious expression. He noted that the First Amendment protects the right of the Ku Klux Klan to march.

"But,” Mason observed, "if the Ku Klux Klan was marching with a symbol that said 'Merry Christmas,' it certainly wouldn’t be allowed.”

JACD founder Don Feder formed the group earlier this year in an effort to combat what he sees as an attack on the Judeo-Christian foundations of American society.

Feder, a long-time editorial writer and syndicated columnist for the Boston Herald, told reporters it is time for Jews to stand up against anti-Christmas secularism.

"Jews Against Anti-Christian Defamation,” he proclaimed, "is here today to say ‘enough already!”

"If you’re offended by a municipal Christmas tree or Santa in a holiday parade or a manger in a park, get over it,” Feder advised.

Feder worries that Christmas is "disappearing from our culture at an ever-accelerating pace.”

Evidence, he said, can be seen in both the public and the private sector – from towns refusing to put up Nativity scenes to stores advertising "holiday” sales rather than "Christmas.”

Earlier this week in Washington, Republican House Majority Leader Dennis Hastert "officially" changed the name of the Capitol Holiday Tree back to it's traditional name - the Capitol Christmas Tree.
