U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions, R-Tex., today called U.S. Supreme Court associate justice nominee Harriet E. Miers "a trusted friend and a trusted professional.”
Sessions represents Dallas, which is Miers' hometown. Miers has donated to Sessions' Congressional campaigns.
Sessions’ communications director, Gina Vaughn, told NewsMax that a brief comment was all the lawmaker was prepared to put forth for the time being.
"I stand firmly behind the President’s nomination of Harriet Miers to serve as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court,” Sessions said. "Harriet Miers has a history of dedicated service, both to Texas and to the nation.

"She is a valued friend and a trusted professional who demonstrates the highest standard of ethics as a practitioner of the law.
"I am confident that, if confirmed, Harriet Miers will faithfully execute her judicial duties with respect for the Constitution of the United States and the intent of our Founding Fathers.”
Miers, who grew up in Dallas and practiced as an attorney with that city’s notable Locke, Purnell, Boren, Laney & Neely firm for more than 20 years, has backed Sessions, one of the House’s most stalwart conservatives. On record is her $500 contribution to his campaign in 1994.
Sessions ran then on -- and still stands for -- a personal platform to "advance a pro-business agenda, provide quality education to all Americans, lower taxes, reduce teen drug use, and guarantee the retirement security of every generation of Americans.”
Like native Texan Sessions, Miers has a long history with the Lone Star State. In 1985, she became the first female president of the Dallas Bar Association, and in 1992 she became the first woman to head the Texas State Bar.
