Kurtz Fails to Disclose Conflict in Hannity Slam
Washington Post media critic Howard Kurtz is accusing the Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity of failing to disclose a conflict of interest during a "Hannity & Colmes" broadcast last week, where he touted the good works of his guest, BOND's Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson.
But the Post reporter failed to disclose his own conflict while blasting the top Fox star.
Story Continues Below
Kurtz complained in his Monday column that during the Peterson broadcast, "Hannity didn't share with viewers that he serves on the advisory board of Peterson's organization. ... Nor did he mention it on Peterson's 12 previous appearances on the program since 2002."
Nowhere in his screed, however, did Kurtz share with his readers the fact that he hosts his own show, "Reliable Sources," on a rival network, CNN - which is currently being trounced by Fox in the ratings.
Still, the CNN host went on to suggest to his unsuspecting readers that Hannity was trying to put one over by covering up his BOND connection.
For his part, Hannity told his CNN critic that he's mentioned his BOND board-member status before on his radio show, adding: "I probably should have done it that night. If I had it to do over again, I would."
Undoubtledy if CNN's Kurtz could rewrite his Monday column, he'd admit to his readers he has a vested interested in attacking the folks at Fox.
