"Members of the [Hall of Fame] nominating committee pointed to Moore's practice of picking at his toes during board meetings as behavior unbecoming of someone who might be considered for the hall," according to the Flint Journal.

The hall's nomination committee announced on Friday that it was canceling for the indefinite future all further inductions, saying the Moore flap was bringing too much negative attention to the honor.

"We're not gonna get wrapped up in any controversy here over his whole situation," Lynn Collard, a member of the hall's nine-person nominating committee, told the Journal.

Davison's native son has been rejected each time he's been nominated for inclusion in the hall, which was founded in 2000.

The committee came under intense pressure recently to induct the controversial star, with a group of Moore backers submitting more than 600 nominations on his behalf, the Journal said.

Still, even before he achieved national celebrity, the toe-picking Democrat was notorious to Davison residents, who also had less than fond memories of him donning a sandwich board and protesting his cause du jour at the town's main intersection.
