Canadian Lawmaker Rejects Apology to U.S. 'Idiots'

Carolyn Parrish, the Canadian member of Parliament who detonated a diplomatic dither by ranting about the U.S. "coalition of idiots" and her hatred of "damn American bastards," refuses to apologize for her latest attack.

The cranky Canuck complained: "The word has a proper definition. It's ignorance; it's lack of knowledge; it's lack of common sense. With this project called missile defense, we only have George Bush's word for it - that it's even on the drawing board and would possibly ever work ... why would you enter into something like that? I don't think the word is that strong."

Prime Minister Paul Martin has twice asked Parrish to retract her venom, but she has again refused.

"I respect him incredibly. I gave it a great deal of thought, but I won't be withdrawing," the supposed Liberal insisted.

Immigration Minister Judy Sgro said Parrish should have "kept her mouth shut," the Calgary Sun reported today.

Conservative MP Stockwell Day noted: "Mr. Martin made a promise to improve Canada-U.S. relations. This is his first big test. Unless Paul Martin can show Canadians and our friends in the U.S. that he is serious about ending these attitudes in the Liberal Party ... he sends a message that he shares those attitudes."

In an editorial headlined "Parrish embarrasses us," the Toronto Star wrote:

"Such intemperate language is not consistent with rational conduct. By the way, guess what word the dictionary uses for someone permanently incapable of rational conduct.

"Clearly, Parrish is an embarrassment to Canada. Why Martin still tolerates her when he is trying to improve U.S. relations is beyond us."
