Barnes & Noble: Sellout of 'Unfit for Command' Not Our Fault

Under fire from angry customers unable to buy "Unfit for Command," Vietnam veteran John O'Neill's fiery attack on John Kerry's war record, Barnes and Noble says the best-selling book's publisher cut its order in half.

Reacting to would-be customers' charges that Barnes and Noble has intentionally not stocked the book or is hiding it, the company issued a statement blaming the publisher, Regnery.

According to Reuters, B&N said it had sold out the book and ordered more copies even though it admitted it could not begin to satisfy the enormous demand.

"[Complaints] started in the stores, and the home office has been inundated as well," a company spokeswoman told Reuters, adding that her company's statement was meant to "set the record straight." It is not Barnes & Noble's fault, she said, but rather Regnery Publishing for halving the chain's original order in half. When the book was released, Regnery said it had printed 500,000 copies.

"We've been put in the difficult position of having to defend ourselves over a title we can't seem to get enough copies of from the publisher," Barnes & Noble chief executive Steve Riggio said in the statement.

Riggio said the company had no political agenda.

NewsMax has received complaints from readers nationwide that in addition to Barnes & Noble, they cannot get the book through Books-a-Million, Sam's Club, Costco, Amazon, Borders, non-chain stores in Colorado, non-chain stores in Nebraska, non-chain stores in Florida, etc.

The solution is simple: Get the book from NewsMax.

P.S.: Among the corporate leaders Kerry claims as supporters: Riggio, as well as Jeff Brotman, chairman of Costco.
