McCain Denies Kerry VP Offer
Sen. John McCain is denying that he was ever expressly offered the VP slot on John Kerry's presidential ticket, but won't explain what he and Kerry discussed during several conversations the two had recently.
Asked about reports that he was offered the No. 2 spot up to seven times by the Massachusetts Democrat, McCain told Fox News Radio's Tony Snow, "No, it was never offered."

When asked, however, if the offer was ever implied, McCain clammed up.
"Well, I cannot attest to that," he told Snow. "All I can tell you is my conversations with him were private conversations, but he never offered it."
The Arizona Republican did acknowledge that he and Kerry have spoken on a number of occasions recently.
"It’s not unusual for us to have conversations. ... He and I have been friends for a number of years because of our efforts on POWs and MIAs, which was a very hot issue back in the early '90s," he explained.
On Wednesday, Kerry campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill emphatically denied that Kerry had dangled the veep spot to McCain, insisting that Sen. John Edwards was at the top of his list.
"John McCain and John Kerry are very good friends," she told NBC's "Today" show. "They served together in the Senate and talk often on the phone, but John Edwards was the first choice."
