Lawmen Contradict Berger's Sox Docs Denials

Law enforcement officials are contradicting denials from Sandy Berger's lawyer and two friends who say the former national security adviser never stuffed super-secret 9/11 documents into his socks during three or more visits to the National Archives last fall.

Reports CNN's Bob Franken: "Three law enforcement sources talking to CNN's Justice Department correspondent Kelli Arena [say] they saw him, or that he had been seen, putting documents in his socks."

Earlier in the day, Berger's lawyer Lanny Breuer dismissed allegations that his client had crammed the secret files into his pants and socks, calling those reports "ridiculous."

Former Clinton press secretary Joe Lockhart challenged the socks-stuffing account as well, telling CNN, "That is absurd - and anyone who says that is interested in something other than the truth."

Former Clinton White House counsel Lanny Davis bluntly rejected the socks-stuffing witnesses, saying, "I suggest that person is lying. Let's see who it is who made the comment that Sandy Berger stuffed something into his socks."

According to Davis, Berger is "a person of impeccable honesty and integrity."
