Democrats Fail to Oust Rep. Moran
True, he's no Sen. Patty "Osama Mama" Murray or Robert "KKK" Byrd or Rep. Marcy Kaptur or "Baghdad" Jim McDermott, but Congressman Jim Moran is one of America's diciest Democrats. Some pundits thought the charges of anti-Semitism would sink him in yesterday's primary, but no.
In heavily Republican Virginia's 8th congressional district, a section packed with Democrats because so many federal bureaucrats live there, Moran, a pariah among the national Democrat establishment, beat challenger Andrew Rosenberg, one of Sen. Teddy Kennedy's former handlers, 59 percent to 41 percent.
Moran's version of a victory speech last night: "It's obviously disturbing to me that as many as 40 percent of alleged Democrats may have voted against me."
But he doesn't have an eighth term sewn up yet. He faces Republican nominee Lisa Marie Cheney in the general election in November.
