Rep. Foley: Child Porn Ruling Stunning

WASHINGTON -- Congressman Mark Foley (R-Fla.), Co-Chairman of the Congressional Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus, today made the following statement in response to the Supreme Court's 5-to-4 decision calling the Child Online Protection Act, passed in 1998, a "likely violation of the First Amendment."

"I'm am stunned the High Court, once again, sided with pornographers over children.

  "The Court must stop applying 18th Century law to address 21st Century technology.

"We protect our children from all other types of obscenity - the Internet should be no exception," said Rep. Foley.

"Congress will continue to work to protect our children until the courts decide to act in the best interests of America's families."

The case was sent back to the lower court for another trial that will determine the fate of the law.
