Ebola Kills Russian Scientist

A Russian researcher has died after accidentally injecting herself with the deadly Ebola virus ... at a "former" bioweapons lab in Siberia.

Antonina Presnyakova died Wednesday after sticking herself with an infected needle while doing research on Ebola on May 5, Natalia Skultetskaya, a spokeswoman for Vektor State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology, said today.

The New York Times said the center did not report the case to the U.N.'s World Health Organization until last week, but Skultetskaya said the Russian Health Ministry and WHO were immediately informed.

Bioterror viruses have killed at least two other scientists at Vektor since 1988. In 1996, Ebola killed an employee at the Defense Ministry's Virology Center outside Moscow.
