'Rewriting History' Hits N.Y. Times Best-Seller List

Just two weeks after its release, "Rewriting History" - Dick Morris' insider account refuting Hillary Clinton's autobiography, "Living History" - has hit the New York Times best-seller list, debuting next week at #7.

The success of "Rewriting History" defies conventional wisdom. It hasn't received the deluge of gushing press coverage that greeted, for instance, former Iraq ambassador Joe Wilson's book "The Politics of Truth," which has been touted in Big Media venues such as "Meet the Press" and "Dateline," as well as CNN's "Larry King Live" and Comedy Central's "The Daily Show."

Still, while publicity for Morris' book has been limited largely to cablecasts such as "Hannity & Colmes," "The O'Reilly Factor," Rush Limbaugh and G. Gordon Liddy's radio shows, as well as NewsMax.com, "Rewriting History" is outselling Wilson's screed, which debuts on the Times list next week four slots behind Morris.

One reason for the success is that Morris proves once again that the Clintons' political partnership is a veritable bottomless pit of intriguing revelations.

Just when it seemed there was nothing new left to learn about America's most notorious power couple, Morris confesses his own previously secret account of Bill Clinton's attempt to rig the Whitewater case by getting a friendly judge to deep-six the indictment of a key witness against him.

Then there's the revelation that Clinton's fascination with interns predated Monica by at least 15 years.

One tidbit likely to dismay New York Democrats is Morris' report of how little interest Mrs. Clinton had in the state before setting her sights on a Senate run.

Recalls the one-time Clinton insider and native New Yorker:

"I saw Hillary frequently from 1980 until 1990. But never, not once, did she ever evince the slightest, remotest interest in New York, city or state. She never asked what it was like to live there, or to grow up in Manhattan."

Continues Morris, "She showed no curiosity about the city's schools, crime, taxes, drug problems, politics or anything else."
