Lieberman Eyeing Tax Freedom for GIs
Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., promised Friday to review a proposal to reward Americans who serve in the military with an exemption from the income tax.
Asked if he would consider sponsoring a bill based on the idea, first proposed by Phoenix radio host Barry Young, Lieberman told nationally syndicated radio host Sean Hannity, "I sure would. ... It's a heck of an idea."
While saying he didn't think most GIs made enough to even pay income taxes, Lieberman added, "I'll go back and look at that."
Hannity has been working with Oliver North's Freedom Alliance to set up college scholarships for the children of soldiers killed in the war on terrorism. A concert he organized last summer raised over a million dollars for the cause.
