U.S. News Poll: 9/11 Controversy Is Clinton's Fault
After a 10-day media blitzkrieg spotlighting claims by former terrorism czar Richard Clarke that President Bush dropped the ball in the war on terror, most Americans still say President Clinton and his national security team "should be held responsible for the latest 9/11 controversy," according to a U.S. News & World Report online survey.
As of Tuesday night, a combined total of 60 percent of those responding to the unscientific survey blamed either Clinton or Clarke, with two-thirds - 40 percent - saying the former president was at fault.
Twenty-nine percent blamed President Bush and just 6 percent held CIA Director George Tenet responsible.
National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, who's been the subject of the most intense media criticism, drew the least blame, at 5 percent.
