John Kerry's 'Boxers or Briefs' Moment

When Bill Clinton told an MTV audience in 1992 that he preferred briefs over boxers, most Americans thought that the topic was beneath the dignity of any self-respecting presidential candidate.

But now Sen. John Kerry has done Clinton one better, taking journalists along with him this week as he shopped for a jockstrap.

Reports the New York Sun, "Mr. Kerry, accompanied by the press, went into a sporting-goods store and bought an athletic supporter."

Commented Sun columnist Mark Steyn, "Even for a campaign marked by a strangely insecure macho exhibitionism, this was a little too self-parodic."
