Rooney's Rant Angers Viewers, Pleases Robertson
Remember when CBS suspended Andy Rooney in 1990 for a comment about blacks? What do you want to bet the former Tiffany Network does nothing to him for an offensive attack on Mel Gibson and the Rev. Pat Robertson?
CBS says Rooney's latest rant generated the heaviest audience response to an item on "60 Minutes" in a year. It refuses to say how many calls and e-mails it was bombarded with but admits getting "several times the normal feedback."
Robertson, by the way, considers an insult from the likes of Rooney to be a compliment.
"Mel Gibson has, without a doubt, created the finest motion picture on the life of Christ of all time," he said. "I am very happy to be linked by Andy Rooney to a talented genius of the order of Mel Gibson."
