'Moderate' Democrats Flip-Flop on Booting U.N.'s Annan

After watching the morning news shows, we were all prepared to write a positive, complimentary piece on the self-described "centrist" Democrats calling for the ouster of corrupt U.N. kingpin Kofi Annan. Then reality intervened.

According to several TV reports today, Democratic Leadership Council (yes, the bunch that bestowed Bill Clinton upon the republic) had joined Republican congressmen's calls for Annan to resign. But this news proved too good to be true.

Story Continues Below

Boy, are those blue faces red today, and not in the good way. We went to DLC's Web site to check out how strongly it was denouncing Annan, but here's what we found:

"(CORRECTION: the original sub-headline of yesterday's New Dem Daily mistakenly summarized the piece as calling for Kofi Annan's resignation. Actually, in calling for the secretary general to 'step aside,' we simply meant to convey that he should remove himself from any involvement in the oil-for-food investigation, and let Paul Volcker, a man of unquestioned integrity and ability, conduct it independently and publicly release his findings. We deeply regret this error)."

Oopsy.

Note to DLC: Check out Canada Free Press' reports exposing the "unquestioned" Volcker.

The funniest part of all this is the refusal of these allegedly "moderate" Democrats once again to connect with the mainstream America that so despises the morally bankrupt, pro-terrorist, pro-genocide U.N. Yet at the same time DLC's Web site today offered these hilarious items:

  • "The Road Back" - "If Democrats want to be a majority party again, they need to win back the middle class."

  • "Heartland Strategy" - "Democrats can't be a national party if they cede all of red America to the GOP. They must compete in the heartland. Here's how they do it."

  • "Ending Our Losing Ways" - "A minority party that wants to become a majority party has to surprise people so they realize it's better than they thought."

  • "Get the Red Out" - "If we want to be a majority party again, the only road back runs through the heartland."

But this afternoon the Bush administration seemed eager to alienate Middle America and harm the U.S. and the GOP by defending Annan.
