The 57-year-old former first lady wins the prize for her efforts to strengthen the role of women in politics, society and media, said the press release of German market research firm Media Control.

The same prize was also awarded to her husband, former President Bill Clinton, in 1999.

Sen. Clinton will go to Baden-Baden, in southern Germany, to receive the prize on Feb. 13, 2005.

The German Media Prize was established by Media Control in 1992 and a winner is chosen each year by a jury of German editors for his or her outstanding contributions to society.

Among the other left-wing winners in the past were U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, former South African President Nelson Mandela and deceased Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
